The outcome was successful. Specifically, the restoration of the alveolar bone was the game-changer in restoring my patient’s periodontal health.
Introduction by Dr. Afzali
When I first saw this patient, she was challenged by a non-responsive and unimproving periodontal condition. The “before” pictures you see here were taken AFTER full-mouth scaling and root planing, antimicrobial irrigations, soft tissue laser treatment, and a diligent home care regimen.
Orthodontosis is the non-inflammatory deficiency of the alveolar bone in the horizontal dimension caused by the displaced root(s) of the tooth, typically palatally or lingually. This results in excess soft tissue and chronic inflammation called Orthodontitis. Once the root is upright, the alveolar bone is restored and the orthodontitis (the gingivitis from malpositioned teeth) is alleviated.
Fortunately, FASTBRACES upright the root from the beginning of treatment and this gave me a great advantage in managing the severity of the periodontal disease in this case. And the outcome was successful. Specifically, the restoration of the alveolar bone was the game-changer in restoring my patient’s periodontal health.
This case study supports the concept of orthodontosis and orthodontitis, a new dental disease defined by doctors Anthony Viazis, Evangelos Viazis and Tom C. Pagonis, as published in the Journal of Dental Health, Oral Disorders & Therapy Volume I Issue 5-2014.
